Updating a Bay Area beauty

Perched overlooking San Francisco in the Berkeley Hills, CA, this house had not been touched in 40+ years and was in dire need of love. We were tasked with updating the foundations for comfort in the home - the mechanicals, electrical system and repair to siding - but also in more cosmetic areas such as the the bathrooms, laundry room and lighting fixtures throughout. The clients, admirers of both Japanese and mid-century style, wanted to honor the era of the home while at the same time requesting a blank canvas that would incorporate those styles and lend itself to their plans to collect unique and colorful furnishing and accessories. Incorporating the use of rich woods tones, bold shapes and color blocking, we struck a balance of being both vibrant and neutral.
