CREATING A WELCOMING CLINIC
When Dr. Shawn Macalester set out to create Oregon Rheumatology, he envisioned a different kind of outpatient experience—one rooted in whole-patient health and personalized care.
To bring that vision to life, he partnered with S. Baird Design to develop both the brand and the physical space of the clinic.
Housed in a street-level suite of a 1980s medical complex, the existing space had strong bones but was in need of a complete overhaul.
Our design team embraced the quiet modernism of the original structure and layered in a warm, boutique hospitality feel.
Original wood cabinetry, ceilings, and doors were preserved and paired with brushed stainless counters, era-influenced furniture, soffit lighting, and nature-inspired artwork and finishes.
The clinic includes a dedicated infusion center, a mix of exam and treatment rooms, private offices, and well-planned stations for nurses and support staff—each area designed to support ease, calm, and care.
The result is a space that feels at once professional and comforting.
